Prayer Letter

Intercessory Prayer Letter – February 2014

Updates, reports and answered prayers…

Steve and Sherrie Brown

Steve is now serving as President of DNA-21 and focusing primary attention toward churches in the Kansas City area.

We continue to work with King’s Family Church of Kansas City in leading their housechurches and discipling through Discovery Bible Storying.

We were able to lead a training workshop in storying and how to make it memorable during the ION (International Orality Network) Conference in September.

Over the past few years we have led a children’s ministry using storying as the primary method of teaching scriptures. It has been a great experience to see 25-30 children, many who have no previous church background, participate and learn significant parts of the Bible and share the stories with their families and friends. This has led to an opportunity to train children’s ministry leaders in other churches. We are planning on leading a workshop for children’s ministry leaders on February 8th.

Rick and Jayne Brekelbaum

The Annual ION Conference in St. Louis this past September was a time for God’s Scripture Servants (people who use Bible Storying) to come together to worship, learn from one another, and celebrate what God is doing through His people.  There were 260 in attendance.  Some of the highlights were:

  • Worship through a gifted worship team, incorporating videos from other cultures worshiping the Lord
  • Prayer:  40 days advance prayer with emphasis on unreached peoples, continual prayer in the prayer room throughout the conference, with a map room set aside to pray over unreached peoples, followed by our normal weekly prayer call on Thursdays.
  • Greater diversity than any previous gathering, with both internationals and the black community from the St. Louis Metro area.
  • More emphasis on the arts and media in the workshops.
  • Special speakers addressing the 7 Disciplines (facets) of Orality followed by discussions and interchange with the speakers. Go to and download the 7 Disciplines book.
  • A higher representation from the St. Louis area and we trained more people (in advance of the conference) than ever in Biblical Storying for discipleship and evangelism.

Rick and Jayne are networking with missions’ ministers to support a region-wide” missions mobilizing movement” and to equip small groups/local ministry leaders in Bible Storying in the NW Arkansas area.

We are excited that Jayne will serve the team in coordinating intercessory prayer for the ministry. We have always valued the role of prayer and relied on your prayers. This will add a new dimension in coordinating and raising prayer on behalf of the DNA-21 team members, churches, and others who are looking into orality-based discipleship. Jayne has gifts we need in this area and she invites you to share prayer needs with her.

Brett Willis

It has been a privilege to serve on the DNA 21 Board for the past two years.  It has blessed my life and my ministry but for now, personal, ministry and family changes are calling for my priority attention. For now I am stepping down from the board. I hope to continue to be involved with DNA-21 in the future and will definitely continue to work to make disciples through storying.

Join us in prayer…

Please continue to pray for God’s activity and connections between churches in Kansas City. Pray especially for work in the urban core of Kansas City, primarily in the area known as the Northeast.

Keep praying for King’s Family Church that they will expand use of storying in their housechurches and begin to extend the stories beyond the group time into their daily relationships.

Pray for Steve and Sherrie as they provide training in the Kansas City area.

  • They plan to lead another DNA-21 workshop for pastors in the spring.
  • They would like to lead a workshop on using orality in children’s ministry.
  • They have been asked by a local church to train their adults in storying and discipleship as their primary Sunday morning Christian education program.

Pray for a new church plant named New Heights – Bentonville, Arkansas, as they incorporate storying in small groups for disciple making.  It is a  ”daughter church” of New Heights-Fayetteville, AR.

Pray for the management of our website…

We want it to be an effective tool in communicating this ministry and it is a challenge to keep it up to date. Pray for Steve and Bradley Yandell (our website designer) as they seek to update and rework the website.

Pray for Matthew’s House as they work with leaders to help develop a plan for training and implementing effective discipleship among college students and in the church so members can continually be discipled and disciple others. Pray also for continued strength for Brett personally.
